meet ciana perry
Meet Ciana Perry - Ciana is a Graphic Designer at Zipcar. Joining Zipcar in 2010 she has been making Zipcar look good with her energy and her creativity for two years.
How do you like to start your day?
My day generally starts with me snoozing my alarm too many times. Sharing a flat with two other girls (one of which works at Zipcar) usually means a race to the bathroom whilst jumping over two (overly) energetic cats en route but still managing to squeeze in a quick cuppa first.
How do you like to structure your day?
After the race to the bathroom I’m ready to face the world. I’m out the door and headphones go in and the volume goes up. Getting into work for about half eight gives me a chance to do one of my favourite things: browse the web looking at design blogs, but of course, first things first - kettle goes on (our day doesn’t start until we’ve had a cuppa in the creative department).
Once the rest of my team is in, we go through the projects and have a catch up on things we’re working on. We are a close team and this gives us a chance to chat about ideas and give feedback on projects. To keep everyone in the know on what we’re doing, we write them on our Zipcar green chalk wall. After another cup of tea, the fun begins and we start doing some designing.
What does a typical day at Zipcar consist of?
There is definitely never a typical day at Zipcar, which is one of the reasons I love it. From designing a tube campaign, revamping brochures, coding our Facebook apps, through to updating posters and squeezing in the odd last minute request; our day is always so varied.
What do you enjoy most about working at Zipcar?
Having the opportunity to get involved in lots of different fun projects is definitely a huge part of why I love it, but it wouldn’t be the same if it wasn’t for the amazing bunch of people I get to work with.
When you join Zipcar you join a family. We go out together, go to the gym together, raise money for good causes together and all get involved in team bake-offs. You know you have a good bunch when you can spend all day with them but still want to spend time with them after work. When the times get tough you can always count on your team to pull together to help get the work done.
How did you find yourself as a Graphic Designer at Zipcar, or Streetcar as it was when you joined? What is your background?
From a very early age, I knew maths and science were not my strong points, but then it came to art class. From that I realized I love to design things, and I knew I wanted to be a designer. Working as an in-house designer and then for a design agency in Essex, I decided London was where I wanted to be and was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work as a Junior Designer at Streetcar. Two years later, and with enormous support from my team, I am now a fully-fledged designer at Zipcar who now knows how to code (not that I’m bragging!).
How do you like to wind down outside work?
If I’m not forcing myself to go to the gym, then living with friends means there is always an excuse for a girly chat and a glass of wine. If it’s not that then we all sit to watch our favourite programme, The Big Bang Theory, and it’s cup of tea and comfy socks time.
Thanks Ciana. It sounds like working in creative at Zipcar is a lot of fun!
We’ll be meeting other members of the Zipcar team in the coming months, plus you can read other interviews at the top of this page. If there’s anyone or any team you’d like to know more about, get in touch.
