Mark Norman

president

When it comes to putting the “Zip” in Zipcar, no one has more drive than Mark. With more than 20 years experience leading businesses in transport, technology and consumer services, he doesn’t need GPS to move a company in the right direction. Mark has been in the car club industry since 2006 when he took the wheel at Flexcar, a Seattle-based car club company. He became president of Zipcar in 2007, when Zipcar acquired Flexcar, creating the world’s largest car club network. During his tenure at Zipcar, he has managed the company’s growth in 20 major metropolitan areas, and on more than 300 college campuses in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain and Austria.

Mark and the Zipcar team are focused on expanding Zipcar’s leadership position in technology innovation, sustainability, and member service while continuing to revolutionise personal mobility. Powered by the global network of Avis Budget Group, Mark is driving Zipcar’s growth across geographies, technologies and service models.

Mark’s career has been defined by leveraging operational best practices to ensure customer satisfaction and revenue growth. His ability to streamline complex operations with a focus on what matters most – our members – helps Zipcar continue to expand its global operations with the same entrepreneurial and member-centric approach that has made Zipcar successful thus far.

frerk-malte feller

Frerk-Malte Feller

president, Zipcar europe

Car clubs came from Europe, so it's only fitting that the largest car club network in the world have a strong presence there. The man with the plan is Frerk-Malte Feller (Malte), President of Zipcar Europe.

Malte is responsible for keeping things zipping from London to Barcelona and beyond. He joined us following the integration of UK's Streetcar in late 2011 and the purchase of Spain's Avancar in 2012.

Prior to Zipcar, Malte held a series of leadership roles at eBay/PayPal, from heading up eBay in Germany to launching and growing various other operations in Europe, and most recently heading up PayPal Australia. (We're all pretty jealous of his air miles.)

Malte holds a Business Administration degree from the Europe-University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), and participated in the MBA programme at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.

lesley mottla

Lesley Mottla

executive vice president, product & member experience

Lesley and her team are the behind-the-scenes masterminds who take a people-centered approach to improve, design and innovate the Zipcar member experience across all touch points and supporting systems—from mobile to web to member support to the Zipcar itself. Among many other cool experiences, Lesley led the charge in creating Zipcar's smart phone applications, making it possible for the rest of us to reserve a Zipcar and honk its horn from across the parking lot.

Prior to Zipcar, Lesley was part of the Microsoft Office Product Group and held key product management and marketing roles at Groove Networks. Earlier on, working in an international service design consultancy, she led cross-discipline teams to design and deliver innovative, service-focused, simple experiences for all kinds of consumers and for global clients with complex, multi-channel service delivery systems like BMW, Sheraton, Weight Watchers and AT&T.

Her passion for developing and delivering great experiences for people is matched by her personal enthusiasm for new experiences. She's co-founded an art studio, volunteers each year internationally, and participates on the board of local non-profits aimed at addressing problems and opportunities impacting the world's poorest countries.

Lesley is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), and earned her MBA from Northeastern University.

Prior to joining the Zipcar team, Brian had his own consultancy called Little Harbor Group. Ciara Smyth

executive vice president, human resources

First thing to know about our EVP of HR, her name is pronounced Kir-ah. Ciara is focused on managing and growing the tremendous talent we're lucky to have here at Zipcar. (Which makes her very popular at cocktail parties.)

Her background is chock full of experience including a long tenure as EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing. There she focused on strategic and workforce planning, leadership development, enterprise talent management and succession planning. Prior to Houghton Mifflin, Ciara was EVP, Global Business Operations at Riverdeep, working extensively on mergers and acquisitions, integrating 7 companies and several hundred employees.

Originally from Dublin (not Ohio, the one in Ireland, silly), Ciara is a graduate of University College, Dublin and the University of Essex in the UK. Most recently, she received a Master of Arts in International Affairs from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

scott griffith

Scott Griffith

strategic advisor

Scott served as Chairman and Chief Executive officer from 2003-2013, solidifying Zipcar as the world's leading car club network, growing the company organically and through several acquisitions, taking the company public in 2011, and then negotiating the sale of Zipcar to Avis Budget Group in 2013.

Along the way, Scott was at the forefront of the evolution of car clubs, fostering their emergence as a new transport category over the last decade. Griffith’s operational and brand leadership allowed the company to help reduce congestion, ease parking demands and lower communities' overall carbon footprints. He spearheaded groundbreaking partnerships with several top global brands, the world's largest automakers, and countless transport agencies, universities and influential city and state governments that transformed Zipcar and the transport industry alike.

Griffith was one of Huffington Post's 2010 Game-Changers in Transportation, Corporate Responsibility Magazine's 2010 Social Entrepreneur CEO of the Year and one of BusinessWeek's Best Leaders of 2006.

Prior to Zipcar, Griffith held senior level positions at The Boeing Company; Information America, an Atlanta-based provider of online public record information; and The Parthenon Group, a boutique business strategy and investment firm. Griffith earned his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also serves on the board of directors for both the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and The Alliance for Business Leadership.
